Black Organic Quinoa is delicious South American grain which is nutty in flavour and gluten free. It is a fantastic substitute for rice, is highly nutritious and full of protein. Quinoa is light and fluffy and makes a wonderful addition to salads or soups.
Cooking:
1 cup of raw quinoa = approx. 3 cups cooked quinoa.
Rinse quinoa thoroughly.
Add 1 cup quinoa and 2 cups of water or stock to a medium saucepan.
Bring to the boil, cover and simmer on low heat until cooked and most the liquid is absorbed, usually 10 – 15 mins. Quinoa is cooked when it is slightly translucent in the centre and you see a tiny circle around the grain.
Let the quinoa sit in the pot with the lid on for 10 minutes. Then fluff with a fork. Add seasoning to taste.
Uses:
Quinoa is so versatile it can be used for breakfast, lunch or dinner! It makes a healthy breakfast porridge. For lunch is can be added to salads and soups. And for dinner it can be used as a yummy side dish instead of rice or pasta.
