Allspice, Whole

Allspice, or pimento, is the dried unripened berry of the pimento tree. The flavour is said to be a combination of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove.

The pimento tree is native to islands in the Caribbean and is important in the cuisine from this region. Allspice is used to flavour many Middle Eastern dishes and is often used in Great Britain in both savoury and sweet recipes.

Uses:
Add to stews and meat dishes. Use in pickles, curry powder, sausages, cakes and desserts.

Origin:
Mexico.
